Mes pérégrinations photographiques m'ont amené vers ce lieu perdu dans la campagne tourangelle. Je m'attendais à y voir des personnages portant des entonnoirs sur la tête (...) mais ce ne fut que promeneurs assez courageux pour patauger dans la boue et chevaux traversant le gué.
Ce pont à trois arches inégales en ogive est construit sur l’ancien chemin qui relie Amboise et Poitiers par Sainte Catherine de Ferbois. Il facilite alors le franchissement de la rivière l’Echandon par les « Jacquets » Pèlerins de la route d’Espagne vers Saint Jacques de Compostelle, qui devaient jusqu’alors traverser le cours d’eau à gué. Selon la légende, Jeanne d’Arc y passe pour aller chercher son épée dans l’église de Sainte Catherine. Ce ne serait pas un pont gallo-romain (Il daterait du XVe siècle pour les uns, du XIIIe pour les autres). Alors pourquoi romain ? Peut-être parce qu'il a été construit là où se trouvait un ancien gué romain ou encore une voie romaine.

My photographic wanderings led me to that place lost in the Touraine countryside. I expected to see people wearing on the head funnels (...) but it was only walkers brave enough to wade through mud and horses crossing the ford.
The three-arched bridge arched unequal is built on the old road that connects Amboise and Poitiers by St. Catherine of Ferbois. It then facilitates the crossing of the river by Echandon "Jacquets" Pilgrims of the road from Spain to Saint Jacques de Compostela, which had previously crossed the river to ford. According to legend, Joan of Arc goes to fetch his sword in the church of St. Catherine. It would not be a Gallo-Roman bridge (it dates from the fifteenth century for some, the thirteenth for the others). So why Rome? Perhaps because it was built where there was an old Roman ford or a Roman road.
